It's just really disheartening to see how materialistic they are!! I asked my mom if I was ever like that she said that because she raised me right, I never ever threw a tantrum or demanded something unreasonable. I got tons of hand me downs, always had the right shoes, and never went without.
So it scares me when these kids are begging for Uggs or screaming at their parents that they hate their new Nike shoes they picked out last week and want a new pair.
The worst part is sometimes I can see exactly where their behaviour comes from: the parent. One parent sauntered in and was looking at our selection of shoes for young girls. When I informed her of the current sale for boots for young girls, she said "I already got her the best boots money can buy. (And if she had stopped here it would've been fine since I'm not going to pressure someone to buy something they already have) She only wears the very best you know. These boots here are not good enough."
Then you have the other end of the extreme where the parent is just tripping over themselves to please the child. I had one mother spend 45minutes in the store trying to find suitable shoes for her 10-11 yr. old child to go to school. She kept telling me how "Oh she wouldn't like that, she would fuss about it, I think she'll object to it etc." And then she told me how it takes forever for the kid in the morning to get up and get dressed. Putting shoes on was the hardest part and she would throw fits if the shoes weren't exactly to her liking. If I was ever like that, I know my mom would've just made me go to school without shoes. :P
Anyways. The worst is when the kid throws a tantrum and screams extremely loudly or acts out violently and messes up the shoe racks. Of course the parent then looks at me and expects me to pick up after their own child. What happened to taking responsibility for your actions and the actions of those whom you are in charge of?!
Well, at least seeing all these materialistic kids and demanding adults makes me realize that I have a lot to be thankful for.
- For parents that raised me right
- For shoes that fit me and fit most occasions I could possibly have.
- For a roof over my head
- For a job
Share with me your own personal anecdotes of bratty kids or things you're thankful for! :)
